Global redesign & brand revamp

No longer just a place for consumers to find cannabis, and valued at $1B, Weedmaps has become the leader in business solutions for companies operating in the highly regulated cannabis space.

I served as VP of Product Design and Brand Creative at Weedmaps from 2021 to 2023.

In that time, I scaled my team, conducted a global product redesign, reinvented our brand messaging and style, developed a sophisticated design system, and boosted user happiness metrics across the board.

Team: 20 designers, writers, researchers
Company size: 400 humans, $1B
Arena: Consumer marketplace, business solutions

Consumer products

Gone were the gray backgrounds, sharp corners, and noisy shadows, replaced with a clean, clear, welcoming, modern look and feel that could appeal to users of all demographics.

Using our new creative, art, and photography guidelines, we created photo icons and illustrations to represent product types and characteristics, lending splashes of color to the UI and improving wayfinding dramatically.

We powered the consumer and business sites and apps with "Teal", a sophisticated design system developed in-house and purpose-built for our exact needs. Colors and styles were chosen to support the brand goals defined by the business using workshops and design sprints. Interactions, elements, and layouts were tested relentlessly to make sure we were supporting both business metrics and boosting user happiness.

We used cross-functional design sprints and workshops as well as extensive qual and quant research to hone in on our new look and feel as it applied to everything from UX/UI to a dictionary of approved terminology.
