Hi, I’m Jason. I lead teams who design wonderful products that move the bottom line.
This site was launched in December of 2024 and is currently in progress. Apologies for any placeholders or "coming soon" labels.
Let's not just design cool stuff.
Let's design cool stuff that moves the business forward.
My teams deliver effective, impactful products built on research and insight-driven design. Our work enables businesses to compete in a world where “good design” is no longer good enough.
As for me, I've been creating interactive things for 25 years, as a designer, developer, and product manager in various periods of my career. I love designing useful things that help people achieve their goals with minimal pain and effort. I believe design offers a unique and valuable perspective on product and business strategy.
When I'm not breaking the internet with world-class design, you can usually find me in my woodworking shop or under a small pile of cats.
This is a brief overview of my experience, values, and a few key projects, in handy deck form.
I had the pleasure of working with The Boring Lab to reenvision their VMS admin suite, The Boring Toolbox. We stripped it down to its bare essentials and rebuilt it from the ground up, incorporating data collected from user interviews and leveraging clever UX patterns to enable powerful new features like bulk editing and rapid report generation.
In my seven years at Google I was granted 11 patents, mostly having to do with the global redesign of YouTube that I conducted in the second year of my tenure.
I created and maintain a design system called clear, which is available for free under the MIT license for both personal and commercial use. It takes advantage of state-of-the-craft tools and techniques like variables/tokens, variants, and base components to provide a simple, customizable, and extensible system.
Find more in the Work section, or please reach out directly for additional case studies and examples of my work as both a leader and practitioner.
As VP of Design at Kajabi, I led and scaled a team of 10 designers with whom I rebuilt the entire B2B application including restructuring the data architecture, redesigning the UI, boosting SUS and CSAT by ~30%, developing a robust design system, and improving key experiences across the platform.
Sensing a pattern? I’m often brought in by established companies entering a new phase where they’ve decided to take design more seriously and fund it appropriately. This often requires a fundamental rethink of the product’s user experience and design, hence the global redesigns you see on this page.
As VP of Product Design and Brand Creative at Weedmaps, I led 20+ designers, researchers, and writers with whom I created a sophisticated design system and conducted a global redesign across both the business suite and consumer products.
Independent consulting for small and mid-size companies like Onsemble, The Boring Lab, Remento, and you.
As Design Lead at Google, I led a team of four designers responsible for the consumer experience across all video monetization products associated with YouTube and AdWords for Video.
As Design Lead at YouTube, I founded and led the company’s first-ever global redesign and developed it’s first design system. I also redesigned the commenting system to include modern features like threads, account management, and “magic” sorting and filtering.
Here’s a bit of an overview of who I am, what I’ve achieved, and how I operate. Kind of a cheat sheet for my portfolio, resume, and LinkedIn. Maybe it’ll save you a few minutes.
I create and maintain a tiny but robust design system called Clear, which I offer free for both personal and commercial use under the MIT license. It’s great for kickstarting a project, systematizing your product, or rapidly prototyping your ideas!
